What have you resolved to do or change or add to your life this year?
I have chosen to do my best to become a vegetarian. This is not an easy endeavor considering my health issues and allergies. But I can no longer appreciate nature, empower myself and feel peace within if I sustain myself by eating animals. Dr. Melanie Joy calls it Carnism in her book Why we love dogs, eat pigs, and wear cows. It helped me to understand how we can explain away our need for meat.
Upon further reflection when I read that some of the massive bird deaths were a result of the government killing innocent starlings so they wouldn't soil the chickens for consumption, a bell just went off in my head. I love birds, they are my friends. I've also been known to hug a tree or two. The first nature walk with my granddaughter included hugging a tree and explaining the wonders of nature. Trust me this is not unusual for me, ask my kids. "Ok kids we are going to do gratitudes beginning with A from the alphabet. Let me start; A I am grateful for Apples"...and so on. You could see their eyes rolling a bit but by the time you get to H you're feeling pretty good about all the wonderful things about life.
So what have you resolve to do make your life and our earth a better place for us and our descendants? F, I am grateful for friends!
Sandra, I've been thinking that my diet is also destined for vegetarianism...please keep me posted! I'd love to hear how it works out for you! Kim
